The scores for the 2022 Halliday Wine Companion are out, and Pewsey Vale Vineyard has received great results, with three Riesling varietals receiving over 90 points. Pewsey Vale Winery was also awarded an Excellent score of 4.5-stars.
“Early harvest at almost 10 degrees baumé, 3–4 weeks before the rest of the vineyard; 23g/L residual sugar. Sweet wine is more about acidity than sugar, and early harvest upholds impressive vibrancy in Prima. Purity of lime and Granny Smith apple linger long, with cool, high natural acidity triumphing over gentle sweetness. Just the thing for spicy fusion action, now or later.”

“Organic and biodynamic principles. A higher diurnal variation than usual produced flavour with natural acidity. Wild fermented, RS 1.7g/L. An enticing secondary style of toast, roast almonds, butter and wild honey over a core of preserved lemon and lime. It concludes long and spicy, guided by a focused line of bright acidity. A touch of reductive burnt rubber on opening quickly blows off.”

“RS 1.7g/L. A perpetual star in accessible, affordable riesling, this historic vineyard and legendary label deserve a place in every home entertainer's repertoire. Lime, Granny Smith apple and spice assume their usual positions. This dry, low-yielding season has lent a salty feel to its gentle acid line, making this a vintage for short-term drinking.”
