Aged Riesling - Pewsey Vale Vineyard

Aged Riesling - Pewsey Vale Vineyard

At Pewsey Vale Vineyard, we are not averse to a glass of Riesling no matter the weather, company or time of day. We are strong believers that every moment can be a Pewsey moment. The first that comes to mind is a warm summer afternoon by the ocean. The crisp lemon lime flavours are a match second-to-none for sunshine and salty ocean air.

But given time - and a skilled hand of the maker - this refreshingly zesty drop will mellow into a rich, toasty, buttery, deliciously complex wine.

Why bother? Well, for us - the lucky ones who get to enjoy the wine - the benefit of aged Riesling is that the richer flavours in the wine will pair superbly with richer food flavours. Where we might match a young Riesling with fresh seafood or a crisp salad, an aged Riesling will stand up well next to bolder spices, like duck breast with five spice glaze, smoky cauliflower soup with shaved truffles, or seared scallops and lemon butter sauce.

So, if you think you’re ready to dip your toe in the water, Pewsey Vale Vineyard The Contours 5 Year Museum Release is the perfect place to begin your journey with aged Riesling.

Our Pewsey Vale Vineyard Contours block was planted in 1965 and since 1995, we have harvested this exceptional block as a single parcel of wine. We bottle the wine in the year it was made, and let it rest in the cellar for five years before release. After five years of bottle age, the classic fresh lemon lime and floral aromas and flavours are still present, but with slight changes in character. Think concentrated lime juice, lime marmalade and lemongrass overlaid with toasted brioche and sage oil. If you’re ready for the next step after the 5 Year, or if you’re feeling really bold, then it’s time to try our 10 Year Museum Reserve Riesling. It is rich and intense yet vibrant and delicate with notes of honey, fresh toast and marmalade, with classic Pewsey lemon lime still unequivocally present.

With further ageing, the wine will develop further richness and complexity over decades in the cellar. If you can be patient.

So, no matter the weather, company or time of day, we’re confident we have a Pewsey Vale Vineyard Riesling to suit your mood.

After all, Riesling is our specialty.
