The Details

Tasting Note A bold crimson red in colour with magenta hues. The nose has rich aromas of violets, black cherries and mulberries with hints of cassis and forest-floor characters. The wine opens with the pretty floral characters of the nose and a rich blackberry edge before progressing to the mocha oak mid-palate. It finishes with succulent tannins that continue the experience long after the wine has left your mouth.
Best Enjoyed With Pair with Angus beef fillet topped with garlic poached marron (what the locals refer to as steak and lake), or chargrilled kale with brown rice and onions.
Treatment The grapes for this wine are grown on a small selection of sites, most being around the Margaret River's flagship Wilyabrup sub-region, close to the Indian Ocean. The soil types, either sandy or laterite gravel soils, both restrict vine yields. There is a range of aspects and soil types through our vineyard sites, and these variances and selective blending provide Ringbolt with much of its complexity.

Accolades

A thoroughly enjoyable wine
Classic Cabernet from the get-go. Sourced from a variety of sites around the Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River, this is super drinking for the asking price. Decant to drink now or hold, either way, you're winning. Expressive and layered with all things Cabernet. Be consumed by blackberries and cassis, Bay leaf and thyme, leather, black olives and cigar box. Cedar plays its part early and then calms to fuse with dark chocolate and fine spices that reach long on a savoury finish. Readily available, it is a thoroughly enjoyable wine that is well worth checking out and proof that you don't need to drop a bomb to drink well. Drink to eight years+

Serious Character
Ringbolt is made in a popular, easy to appreciate style, with smooth texture and serious character. The core of sweet cassis and berry fruit is rounded out by tobacco and cedar notes, which carry through to a lingering, fresh finish. Drink now-2030. Available in Ontario at the above price ($22.95 until Aug. 13), various prices in Alberta, $30.99 in Saskatchewan, $25.99 in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, $28.94 in Newfoundland.

Elegantly weighted and structured
Medium-deep red with a tinge of purple in the rim; there are sweet mulbery and cassis aromas, the palate elegantly weighted and structured with fine grained tannins in harmony with the attractive varietal fruit. Medium length; a slight grip lingers suggesting it would go best with some protein.

Tasty and well constructed
Opaque garnet with a bright rim. Violets and cassis, dripping with fleshy cherries and juice, light mint, milk chocolate, a rich tomato leaf/sugo, with easy cigar ash and a relaxed sea side freshness. Just medium bodied. Tight and focused. Precise dark fruit with a fine set of tannins and cool finish. Not quite hitting the highs of previous releases, but still tasty and well constructed.

Wine Spectator 10 Remarkable Wines under $30
Delivers spicy cardamom, clove and chai tea accents that are distinctive, with a core of blueberry, huckleberry and black currant flavors. Gains aromatic interest from rosemary, sage and laurel bay leaf accents, with velvety tannins and a touch of cigar box that lingers.

Very impressive value
This well pitched 2021 Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon displays crystal clear aromas of blackcurrant and pastilles with a mix of fresh and dried herbs. Dry and compact but with layered tannins, this claret style with savoury gravel complexity has a serious side despite its attractive price which makes for very impressive value.

Chiseled savory tannins
Ground coffee beans and dark chocolate frame ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit, with a dried herbal undercurrent adding savoriness. The palate is sculpted, linear, with chiseled savory tannins and lifted acidity. Still young and a little austere, this should evolve with a few more years in bottle.
Wine Enthusiast Buying Guide

A Cab that punches well above its weight
Another pick from Australia’s Margaret River, Ringbolt’s Cabernet Sauvignon demonstrates the power of sourcing your fruit. Made from grapes cultivated from vineyards across the region, the wine is defined by its robust, earthy nose delivering cracked pepper and red fruits. Similar notes continue on the palate, accompanied by vibrant acidity and lean tannins for a Cab that punches well above its weight.
